Milan Marchers Carry 18,457 Names in Silent Gaza Child Tribute

(MENAFN) Hundreds of demonstrators filled the heart of Milan on Friday, bearing a monumental symbolic shroud inscribed with the names of thousands of Palestinian children killed in Gaza, in one of Italy's most visually striking acts of solidarity since the conflict began, according to Radio Popolare.

The solemn procession originated at the iconic Duomo di Milano, where participants unfurled a 27-meter (99-foot) shroud displaying the names of 18,457 Palestinian children killed in Gaza between Oct. 7, 2023, and July 31, 2025. Before the shroud was revealed, the crowd observed a moment of silence in the cathedral square, with Palestinian flags and keffiyehs prominently displayed throughout the gathering.

Organizers described the shroud as a direct symbol of the children killed during the conflict. The cortege then moved in silence from the cathedral toward Castello Sforzesco, as participants sought both to honor the victims and register their opposition to Israel's military campaign in Gaza.

The initiative, first launched following an Italy-Israel football match in October 2024, has since been displayed across more than 30 public squares nationwide — reflecting a broadening wave of civic protest throughout the country.

The demonstration comes amid a devastating humanitarian toll. Israel's military campaign in Gaza since October 2023 has killed nearly 73,000 Palestinians and injured more than 173,000 — the majority of them women and children — according to Palestinian figures.

Despite a ceasefire that took effect Oct. 10, 2025, the Israeli army has killed 947 Palestinians and wounded 2,935 in near-daily attacks, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
