Palestinian Committee Condemns Alleged Damage to Christian Holy Sites in Lebanon

(MENAFN) A Palestinian church affairs committee has issued a statement condemning what it described as Israeli violations against Christian religious sites in southern Lebanon, according to reports.

The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine said the reported incidents constitute a breach of freedom of worship and reflect broader patterns of conduct affecting both Muslim and Christian holy places in the region. It argued that such actions extend beyond Lebanon and mirror longstanding concerns regarding access to and protection of religious sites in Palestinian territories.

The committee stated that targeting places of worship and religious symbols amounts to an attack on shared cultural and spiritual heritage, warning that continued incidents could heighten tensions and undermine interfaith dialogue and coexistence efforts.

It also called on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene and ensure accountability for repeated violations against religious sites.

The statement comes amid heightened controversy over reports and circulated footage alleging misconduct involving religious symbols in southern Lebanon during Israeli military operations, including incidents that sparked public outrage and condemnation.

Additional reports referenced damage to religious structures during periods of conflict in Lebanon, alongside broader claims concerning harm to clergy and places of worship in affected areas. Similar allegations have been made in relation to religious sites in other conflict zones in the region in previous years.
