Palestinian Man Gets Murdered, Woman Injured by IDF

(MENAFN) A Palestinian man was killed and a woman injured on Thursday as Israeli forces continued attacks in the Gaza Strip, despite an existing ceasefire.

Witnesses reported that Israeli strikes targeted areas in eastern Gaza City, eastern Deir al-Balah, and eastern Khan Younis. Earlier attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday had already claimed 23 Palestinian lives across the enclave.

Medical sources said Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian near the Bani Suhaila roundabout, east of Khan Younis. A 28-year-old woman, Aya Khader Barbach, was injured by gunfire inside her tent near the Abu Hamid roundabout in central Khan Younis.

Israeli forces also demolished buildings and facilities east of al-Tuffah neighborhood in Gaza City and carried out airstrikes in the area, which was further hit by artillery shelling and heavy gunfire. Warplanes also struck areas east of Deir al-Balah.

The attacks came despite the January announcement by the US administration that the second phase of the ceasefire had begun. This phase involves additional Israeli withdrawals from Gaza and the launch of reconstruction efforts, which the United Nations estimates will cost around $70 billion.

The ceasefire, which halted an Israeli offensive that began in October 2023, had previously killed nearly 72,000 Palestinians, wounded more than 171,000, and destroyed about 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure.

This escalation highlights ongoing challenges to enforcing the ceasefire and ensuring civilian safety amid Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.
