FM’s of Jordan, UK hold talks on depinning relation, Gaza situation
The officials emphasized enhancing coordination across all sectors and reviewed strategies to achieve a lasting ceasefire in Gaza. They stressed the importance of keeping crossings open to ensure timely and adequate delivery of humanitarian aid and aligning efforts with a political framework aimed at a just, two-state solution.
Safadi and Cooper highlighted the need for sustainable humanitarian assistance, removing obstacles, and facilitating aid distribution through Jordan’s aid corridor, with Cooper praising Jordan’s central role in coordinating deliveries.
The ministers also addressed tensions in the West Bank, with Safadi urging an end to escalations and condemning Israeli actions, including settlement expansion, land confiscation, and attempts to alter the status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He welcomed the UK’s support for the two-state solution and recognition of Palestine.
In addition, the two leaders reviewed developments in Syria, stressing cooperation to support reconstruction while safeguarding sovereignty, unity, and stability. Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s opposition to Israeli interventions aimed at destabilizing the country.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to continued collaboration, strengthening bilateral relations, and addressing issues of shared interest to benefit both nations and their peoples.
