Hamas Offers Recovering Hostage Remains Within Gaza’s “Yellow Line”
The group appealed to mediators and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to supply the necessary equipment and tools to speed up the recovery process.
The “yellow line” represents the area from which Israeli troops have withdrawn under the ceasefire deal that took effect on Oct. 10. This symbolic boundary runs through the Gaza Strip, effectively splitting the territory into two parts—south of Gaza City and north of Khan Younis.
In a public declaration, the Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military branch, stated that its teams “are ready to work on extracting the bodies of (Israeli) enemy prisoners inside the yellow line at the same time and in all places, in order to close this file.”
The statement urged intermediaries and the Red Cross “to provide and equip the necessary machinery and teams to retrieve all the bodies at the same time,” describing the move as an effort to conclude the disagreement regarding the remains of hostages.
Hamas further disclosed that it had transferred three unidentified corpses on Friday after Israel declined to take only samples for forensic analysis, demanding instead the full bodies.
The group explained that it proceeded with the handover “to block the (Israeli) enemy’s claims” and to avoid postponements in the exchange process.
According to reports by Israeli media, the three sets of remains provided by Hamas were later determined not to belong to Israeli captives.
