Gaza Health Ministry Receives Remains Showing Signs of Abuse

(MENAFN) The Gaza Health Ministry announced on Wednesday that it had received the remains of 30 additional Palestinians transferred by Israel as part of the ongoing ceasefire agreement. Some of the bodies reportedly exhibited visible indications of mistreatment.

According to the ministry’s statement, the remains were delivered through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The statement noted, “Several bodies showed clear signs of abuse, including beatings, bound hands, and blindfolded eyes.”

The ministry further explained that this latest transfer increased the total number of bodies returned by Israel since October 14 to 195, though only 57 have been positively identified.

Families are attempting to recognize their loved ones using physical traits or pieces of clothing, as Israel’s extended blockade and the destruction of Gaza’s medical laboratories have rendered forensic identification impossible.

Earlier that same day, the Gaza authorities organized a funeral ceremony for 54 Palestinians whose remains had also been handed back by Israel.

These individuals could not be identified, as their features had been disfigured due to severe torture.

Prior to the truce, Israel had been retaining the remains of 735 Palestinians, as stated by the Palestinian National Campaign to Retrieve Martyrs’ Bodies.

Additionally, a newspaper reported that the Israeli military has been holding roughly 1,500 bodies of Palestinians from Gaza at the notorious Sde Teiman military installation located in southern Israel.
