JD Vance Expresses Optimism for Gaza Ceasefire

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, US Vice President JD Vance shared his optimism regarding the Gaza ceasefire agreement and its potential positive outcomes.

After meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, Vance told reporters, "I am optimistic that the ceasefire is going to hold and that we can actually build a better future in the entire Middle East. But that requires some work."

He emphasized that, given the progress made over the past week, the region is on an "incredible pathway" toward achieving something unprecedented.

Vance described the Gaza ceasefire as “an opportunity” and “a critical piece” for furthering the Abraham Accords, underscoring its significance in the broader effort for regional peace and stability.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, in turn, shared that he and Vice President Vance had discussed the reconstruction of Gaza, including establishing governance and security frameworks under the terms of the ceasefire agreement.

Vance’s visit is part of a broader diplomatic initiative, with plans to meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog later that day, according to Israeli media reports.

Vance arrived in Israel on Tuesday for a three-day visit, primarily focused on overseeing the implementation of the ceasefire that began on October 10.

During this visit, he is also expected to engage in discussions about the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan, which follows the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, a key component of the first phase.
