WHO Completes First Medical Evacuation from Gaza Following Ceasefire
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confirmed the operation resumed vital patient transfers that had been halted during months of intense conflict.
"WHO led today medical evacuation of 41 critical patients and 145 companions out of Gaza – first since the ceasefire," Tedros stated.
Highlighting the ongoing crisis, Tedros revealed that "around 15,000 patients are still waiting for approval to receive medical care outside Gaza," emphasizing that many remain in dire need of treatment that Gaza’s damaged health infrastructure cannot provide.
He urged the global community, saying, "We continue to call on countries to show their solidarity and for all routes to be opened to expedite the medical evacuation."
