Spain Unveils Nine Measures to Halt “Genocide in Gaza”
(MENAFN) Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday revealed nine fresh initiatives designed to prevent the “genocide in Gaza.”
“What Israel is doing is not defending itself, it is exterminating a defenseless population,” Sanchez stated during a televised address.
He noted that although Spain has effectively maintained an export ban on weapons to Israel since 2023, the government will now move to urgently legislate a “permanent” prohibition.
Madrid will also forbid ships carrying fuel to Israeli forces from entering Spanish ports, while aircraft transporting defense equipment will be barred from Spanish airspace.
Sanchez further emphasized that individuals “directly involved in the genocide, violating human rights and war crimes in Gaza” will be denied entry into Spain.
Additional actions include prohibiting imports from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, restricting Spanish consular services for Spanish citizens in the occupied territories to the minimum, and enhancing Spain’s presence in Rafah with extra troops and new collaborative projects with the Palestinian Authority to supply food and medicine.
Spain will also boost its support for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) by €10 million ($11.7 million) and pledge €150 million in extra humanitarian assistance for Gaza in 2026.
