'Handala' vessel is on way to Gaza
“Just weeks after Israeli forces illegally seized our boat ‘Madleen’ and abducted 12 unarmed civilians in international waters, we continue — with global solidarity — to challenge Israel’s illegal and deadly siege,” the coalition declared on X.
Their mission aims to break the blockade “for the children of Gaza,” carrying humanitarian supplies and a message of solidarity to the enclave.
While the exact number of activists aboard is unclear, estimates suggest up to 18 participants, including two members of the far-left French party La France Insoumise (LFI).
The British-flagged ‘Madleen’ had previously left Sicily on June 6 attempting to breach Israel’s naval blockade but was intercepted by Israeli forces on June 9, with its 12 crew members detained.
