"Handala" Sets Sail from Italy to Gaza Again
This voyage comes shortly after a dramatic incident involving their earlier vessel.
According to a statement posted on X, "Just weeks after Israeli forces illegally seized our boat ‘Madleen’ and abducted 12 unarmed civilians in international waters, we continue — with global solidarity — to challenge Israel’s illegal and deadly siege."
The group reiterated its commitment to confronting what it calls an unlawful and deadly blockade enforced by Israel.
The coalition emphasized that the mission aims to deliver humanitarian supplies and a message of "solidarity" specifically "for the children of Gaza."
Their campaign, backed by international supporters, seeks to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis in the region.
While the exact number of participants aboard the vessel remains uncertain — with some estimates placing the count at up to 18 individuals — two members from the far-left political faction La France Insoumise (LFI) are anticipated to join the journey.
Previously, the British-registered boat Madleen embarked from Sicily on June 6 in an effort to breach the Israeli naval blockade imposed on Gaza.
However, on June 9, Israeli forces intercepted the vessel and detained all 12 people on board.
News coverage of the earlier seizure was reported by various agencies, spotlighting ongoing tensions surrounding humanitarian efforts directed at the besieged Gaza Strip.
